Mr.Umesh Vetrivel is a graduate in paramedical sciences who has more than 25 years experience.  Out of this, he has entrepreneurial experience of 20 years – 17 years in the area of chemical trading and 3 years as a partner of a venture to manufacture surfactant chemicals beginning from LABSA. Umesh gained his knowledge of working in a corporate healthcare institute before plunging into the business venture of his own. He established a partnership company in the name of Excel Chemicals with head quarters in Bangalore for dealing in all kinds of Chloro Alkali Chemicals. 

 

His entrepreneurial journey began in the year 2000 when he founded his own company Excel Chemicals with head quarters in Bangalore. Initially it was very tough and he could notch up business of just Rs.1 million. His hard work and enterprise saw him and his company grow to Rs. 500 million per year by 2012. He was able to establish the company with staff strength of over 110. Gradually he opened offices in major towns of south India and at one time the company Excel Chemicals had 5 branches (Bangalore, Chennai, Vellore, Madurai and Pondicherry) with 30 company owned tanker trucks plying for his business. He was handling products like Hydrochloric Acid, Sulphuric Acid, Acetic Acid, Nitric Acid, Caustic Soda Lye, Sodium Hypochlorite, Liquid Chlorine, Soda Ash, Stable Bleaching Powder, Poly Aluminium Chloride, Hydrogen Peroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, etc........

 

Fast growth of the company and its built up strength viz., principled approach, never say die attitude, excellent customer relations etc., prompted Andhra Sugars Ltd to appoint Excel Chemicals as their authorized distributor for  their Chloro Alkali products. As business developed the company under the stewardship of Umesh, ventured into logistics for their captive use. Beginning with 1 tanker the company grew at an accelerated pace to possess 30 tanker trucks. With more than 100 Employees employed by him it was significantly large operation. 

 

As a major supplier for Sulphuric Acid in South India, his company was noticed by Advance Surfactants India Limited (ASL) then a leading buyer of Sulphuric Acid, and Excel Chemicals began supplying to ASL. Although started off with modest quantities they went on to become major suppliers to ASL mainly on account of their (and of course of their promoters’) principled way of conducting the business. Thus began his association with Acid Slurry, the company ASL and Chanemougame who was heading ASL south operation 

 

Being prompt in supplies, he received best supplier award during 2012 from Exide Industries for supplying promptly even during transport strike. During 2008 there was a huge Scarcity for Sulphuric Acid. He honoured the commitment to Advance Surfactants by supplying 1000Mt Sulphuric Acid at a pre fixed price even though the ruling price had gone up by over 300%. With this act he was appreciated by the Advance Surfactants executives and helped him deepen his association with Advance Surfactants. 

 

 Umesh had the inclination and burning ambition to create something big even while he was studying and hence the very quick jump to entrepreneurship. He leveraged his strengths of high risk taking ability, hard working nature, and good communication skills together with great selling skills helped him succeed in the trading venture he founded in the year 2000. However, he was all along aiming for manufacturing business and was waiting for a suitable opportunity which came in the year 2016 with the closure of ASL. The joining of a technical and production expert who also had handled purchase, administration and accounts teaming up with him the sales and logistics expert who had managed over 100 employees helped create a formidable outfit which is today Standard Surfa Chem India Private Limited.

 

Technical Promoter

Chanemougame holds a degree in Mathematics from Pondicherry University with a Masters degree in Computer Applications from Madurai Kamaraj University. In addition, he has acquired Post Graduate Diploma in Operations Research and a Diploma in Information & systems Management from Pondicherry University. He has a total of 23 years of experience 13 of which are in senior management positions and the past 3 years as an entrepreneur.

 

Chanemougame worked all these years in a single company after a brief stint in an audit firm post his education. He began his career modestly in Advance Group and quickly rose to the level of General Manager and Profit Center head of two of the group companies – Advance Surfactants Limited, Pondicherry and Mangalore and was overall in charge of the South India Operations of the Group. During his long stint with the Advance Group, he has worked in diverse functional areas like Manufacturing, Factory management, Exports, Industrial Marketing, Business Development, New Product Development etc. As a Factory Manager, he has handled admirably and efficiently Production, Quality, Materials Management, and Logistics, Man-power Handling, Workers dispute management, Local management (Political & Villagers), Corporate Social works and overall operations of the Factory. As Manager Commercial, he has handled Systems Management, Sales Tax, Service Tax, Central Excise, Bank, ESI, PF, Finance, Planning of Raw Material, Sales, Dispatches, Inventory Control, Statutory Compliance, Logistics, and overall operations & Administration. As General Manager, he has effectively managed Sales & Marketing, customer Relation, Factory operations & overall smooth operation of the factories (Pondicherry & Mangalore), Liaising with the department top officials, and Hindustan Unilever Ltd co-ordination for both Pondicherry & Mangalore Units and Unilever Safety Audits. 

 

Chanemougame has acquired skills in Projects, Factory Operations, Sales & Marketing, Product Distribution, monitoring Profit Centers, and ensuring timely deliveries to customers. Besides, he has gained adequate experience and expertise in ensuring smooth functioning of factories, ensuring proper maintenance of inventory, safety management & controlling logistics management etc. he has become skilled in meeting and handling customers, developing new target markets, achieving the target, controlling the profit centers, liaison with approving authorities with all departments, coordinating with marketing, complying with statutory requirements, marketing communication, effective manpower utilization & relationship management, crisis & disaster management

 

Chanemougame along with Mr. Umesh Vetrivel,  decided to start production unit for LABSA during 2017. They planned to manufacture high quality LABSA 90 %. We started this factory from scratch, from Project papers to Design, Getting license, Pollution – Environmental Clearance (only factory making LABSA 90 % in south India to get EC from Pollution ), Civil Design, Engineering Design, Fabrication of the entire factory, erection of the Plant and commissioning and finally commencing commercial production of high quality LABSA-90%. 

 

Started the commercial production from July 2019 and within a span of 8 months, we are supplying almost all the major customers in the five states of south India (Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra, Telangana). What standard has gained in these past one and half years of operation is very significant that is waiting to be en-cashed. For one, they have established themselves as the true inheritors of Advance (ASL) in terms of high quality manufacturer of LABSA as efficiently as ASL used to do. Given the right volumes and the consequent pricing support from LAB makers, Standard can be unbeatable. After several rounds of discussions and sample submission and analysis, Hindustan Unilever Ltd., (HUL) has been fully convinced of the technical capability of Standard and is about to award the contract for manufacture of LABSA. Other large customer groups are in line to patronize Standard once they stabilize their operation with high volumes whereby they will become competitive as well. With the unflinching support of DTM global group, Standard Surfa chem India Private Limited and Chanemougame is poised to achieve greater heights.
